💬 New Discussions
- Fundrise recently announced plans to take its Innovation Fund public. Mandar’s post explains why he’s decided to exit at NAV rather than participate in the listing
“My investment in the Innovation fund matches [Mandar’s]. Except, I redeemed a substantial portion last quarter to use the cash elsewhere, lock in gains and I was concerned of the AI bubble risk.
That said, I still have a modest allocation in that fund and was planning on enduring the volatility through the lockup, hoping to benefit form a premium like DXYZ still enjoys.” – Bob McRae
“I think the distinction really comes down to entry price and risk tolerance — underwriting a premium when you’re already in at NAV is a different trade than buying in at a discount and waiting for compression. Reasonable paths either way.” – Mandar Mirashi
“I have spoken to fund managers frustrated with their closed end funds trading at NAV discounts and deciding to delist them, achieving the half-way position of being an unlisted fund, trading at NAV, but with the liquidity of exits being available at regular intervals…
Getting out at NAV and reassessing seems pretty smart.” – Travis Mitchell

💬 Poll Results
Results are in for a potential Altea trip to Japan this fall: It’s a popular idea:

October-November would work best:

Next month, we’re working with a Japanese whiskey company that owns a few distilleries, which could serve as the foundation here.
Thank you to everyone who connected us with their contacts in Japan. This will be a tough trip to put together, but worth it!
More to come soon.

🙏 New Asks & Offers
🇨🇳 China Connections?
I’m planning to take the family to China for an epic adventure this summer.
The primary aim of the trip is to immerse the family in what very well could be the dominant culture of the 21st century, expand horizons, and so on.
The secondary objective, for me at least, is to find incredible investment opportunities for Altea members.

Asks
Do you know about China? Do you live in China? Do you have recommendations on who we should meet and what we should do while in those spots? Suggestions on where to stay and how to get between the spots?
Who do you know there whom I should meet with?
Have you invested successfully in China (or not)? Exporting Chinese products? Importing foreign products into China? Anything else?
Offers
What do you want to know about China? What can I scout out for you while we’re on the ground?
💴 FX Transfer Services?
For those investors outside the US: Nick Ellsmore wants to know what service you use for transferring funds to the US?
All his transfers get bounced/rejected using OFX who – reading between the lines – don’t seem to like Mercury as the recipient bank/fintech. He can transfer directly from my Australian bank, but the FX rates are awful.
The clear fan favorite seems to be Wise.
See you next week!
Wyatt
