⛩️ Whisky I: Invest in Japanese Whisky Casks
The Japanese whiskey market has gone through a reset.
For years, Japanese whiskey bottles went vertical. Auction prices surged, Karuizawa became mythical.
Then the momentum cooled. Prices softened, speculators disappeared, and the headlines moved on.
That’s when we start leaning in.
We’re exploring a structured cask SPV with dekantā, one of the most respected and established platforms in the Japanese whisky ecosystem. The focus will be on multi-vintage casks across distilleries like Karuizawa, Hanyu, Kiyokawa, and Ontake.
Why now?
Liquidity has precedent in this niche. Investment platform Rally previously ran Karuizawa SPVs that sold out quickly.
But this is not a one-off bottle play. It’s a deliberate, multi-vintage strategy built around maturation timelines, bottling economics, and defined exit windows.

Whisky I will be a Japanese Whiskey Cask Fund and partnershp with dekantā, designed to continue aging regardless of market cycles.
- Goal is to enter before retail markup and auction competition
- Investing in casks with staggered maturities will create multiple exit windows rather than a single realization event

🍿 Film I & Launch JV
In December, our two film entities split a short-term bridge loan for the rerelease of a classic documentary by Kevin Smith. Repayment came right on time, yielding an IRR of 91%

🇯🇵 Hayato Takahashi is a bonsai builder / producer based in Tokyo. He is currently studying Keido (the Way of Bonsai Display) under Master Kunio Kobayashi at Shunkaen Bonsai Museum.
Hayato wrote Sunday’s (terrific) issue: Bonsai as an Alternative Asset, where he discusses his path into the world of growing bonsai trees, and how you can invest in bonsai trees through his platform, Azukari.

🔗 Andriy Khvetkevych is the co-founder of NicNames.com, an ICANN-accredited domain registrar. He joined Alts because ICANN’s next gTLD application round is scheduled for April.
This only happens once per decade. It allows people to apply / co-invest in a new TLD. (Think .tequila, .shipwreck, .volleyball, etc.)
🏢 Joel Bechtel is a co-founder of Zuma Capital Group, a boutique PE firm focused on multifamily acquisitions (1-50 units) based in Pennsylvania.
