BREAKING UPDATE – TMNT Buyout Offer

Welcome to Comics Insider. This is a new feature where we analyze a current buyout offer.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 9.8

About the Asset

This is a 9.8 graded copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1. There are a total of 33 in circulation.

About the Offer

Rally has received a net offer of $91,994.26 ($91.99/share) for this copy. The gross offer amount was not disclosed. That represents an 8.2% premium over the current trading price. The current market cap for an identical copy trading on Otis is $92,500.

Recent Sales History and Valuation

Rally bought this copy for $59k on July 30 2020. Otis paid $61k for theirs around the same time. The most recent public sale of this asset was in 2019 for $50k.

The slightly more widely traded 9.6 copy sold for $25k in mid 2020 and $20k in early 2019. It most recently sold a few days ago for $66k.

If we apply the same appreciation, that puts the value of our copy at around $156k to $165k. GoCollect rates its FMV at $160k, so I think that’s the right ballpark.

Inferred value – $160k

Verdict

I don’t own any of these shares (or the ones on Otis), but I would vote no if I did. It won’t trade again on Rally for a few months, but I would expect the price to pop a bit when it does.
