1948 Bowman George Mikan PSA 7
About the Asset
This is a 1948 Bowman George Mikan Rookie PSA 7 with a PSA population count of 41, excluding two Qualifiers. The iconic card image of Mikan dribbling down court comes from a signed Type I photograph that Collectable IPO’d in April at an Initial Market Cap of $54,000. The current Market Cap for that photograph is down 27% to $39,420.

Verdict
While the PSA 7 population is undoubtedly low, it would be much more interesting and potentially lucrative to invest in the Mikan rookie card in a Grade 9 or in the only PSA Grade 10 in existence if it ever comes to market.

1910 Tip Top Bread Honus Wagner
About the Asset
This is a 1910 Tip Top Bread Honus Wagner baseball card graded a PSA 5. Out of 32 total submissions, there are a total of three PSA 5 grades with none graded higher. There are also three SGC 5 grades and two SGC 5.5 grades out of 31 total submissions. This puts the total population of Grade 5 cards between PSA and SGC at six, with only two SGC 5.5’s graded higher.
This set of the World Series Champion 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates was released regionally and accounts for the low population count when compared to the more well-known T206 set. Wagner’s portrait is based off the same photograph that appears in his famous T206 version. The 1910 Tip Top Wagner version compares favorably in scarcity to the T206 Wagner with 63 total submissions between PSA and SGC, and a total of 49 T206 submissions between PSA and SGC.

About Honus Wagner
According to Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner had as good a credentials as any ballplayer to be considered the greatest to ever take the field. The “Flying Dutchman,” as he was known, led the National League in batting average eight times and in slugging percentage six times, all while accruing 3,420 hits, 1,732 RBI, and 723 stolen bases. He was also, by all accounts, a superb shortstop. “There is a good argument to make that the Gold Glove should be named for him, that’s how revolutionary his defense was…” wrote baseball writer and historian Joe Posnanski.
Wagner was one of the first five players inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, tying Babe Ruth with the second-most amount of votes among writers, behind only Cobb. His legacy has continued to live on among baseball fans and sports card collectors as his T206 tobacco card is considered the Holy Grail of all trading cards with the most recent $6.606 million sale of his T206 SGC 3 through Robert Edward Auctions. Honus Wagner is now as synonymous with the fortunes of the trading card industry as he is with baseball greatness.

Verdict
An identical PSA 5 card is currently listed at Rally Road for $100,000, so if you are interested, this is the better offering to invest in.
