Today is a deep dive into two assets:
- Derek Jeter 1993 SP basket – IPOs 5th on Collectable
- 2003-2004 Topps Chrome NBA Hobby Box – IPOs 5th April on Otis
What is the Derek Jeter 1993 SP basket?
This is a pair of Derek Jeter rookie cards from the 1993 SP set. Both are graded BGS 9.5.
Because of the foil and dark card borders, this is a very tough grade for BGS. There are only no BGS 10s of the card, and only 273 BGS 9.5 (out of 16790).
There’s no retained equity with this IPO.
It IPOs on Collectable 5th April

Cultural Relevance
2020 Hall of Fame inductee Derek Jeter spent 20 years playing for the New York Yankees. He’s currently the CEO and part-owner of the Miami Marlins.
He received 99.75% of the vote (all but one vote) on the first ballot for the hall of fame, which is the second highest ever. No one (except the voter him/herself) knows who the one holdout was.
Over the course of his 20 year career, Jeter won five each of:
- Championships
- Gold Gloves
- Silver Slugger awards
He’s an annoyingly likeable and marketable guy who’s managed to stay in the public eye for decades. He helped propel the Yankees into the dynasty they are today, and is their all time leader for hits, doubles, games played, stolen bases, times on base, plate appearances and at bats.
He was selected to the All Star game 14 times, and the Yankees retired his number in 2017.

Growth Outlook and Future Catalysts
There aren’t going to be any new stars breaking out for this box, but we do have the imminent retirement of the three or four main rookies sometime soon. That could provide a lift.
But really you’re just hoping the LeBron cards start to tick up again.

Intangibles
Once pretty common, these boxes are getting harder to come by now. And sealed boxes are quite exciting.
