So much solar
With America passing its big and/or beautiful budget last week, there has been significant focus on solar energy in the United States.
Specifically, how the budget is going to hurt America’s solar innovation and adoption.
This widely shared chart summarizes the current state, and America’s lines are likely to shift south while China continues to expand.
Given America’s antagonistic approach to solar, I think it’s worth looking at other potential contenders for solar glory.
It turns out there are many!
The dark red bits are the best spots globally for solar panels. While some are in less-than-desirable locations, a great many are ideally located in countries with both reasonable regulatory regimes and sufficient security to generate bazilawatts of energy:
- Australia
- Chile
- Saudi Arabia
- Oman
- Tunisia
- Mexico
On and on and on.
I’m exploring this further to determine the simplest and most ROI-positive way to transform pure energy into pure profits.

Tilting at bitcoin rigs
Speaking of which, the FT recently came out with a fascinating piece on a man who spent the end of his life pursuing a “quixotic dream of mining Bitcoin by solar power on a flotilla held together with giant rubber bands.”
But this was only the final chapter in his remarkable journey
In the late 2000s, Landi’s businesses had been doing a roaring trade. Born into a wealthy family in Arezzo, a hilltop town in Tuscany, he had made his early fortunes with Plugit, which sold dial-up internet with a side hustle in erotic chat rooms. In his spare time, he competed in off-road car races across Africa.

Junior bankers and consultants are cooked
The world is waking up to the fact that junior white-collar workers are most at risk of losing their jobs to robots.
Even very precious and special HBS grads are suffering.
Part of that is due to tariff uncertainty, of course, but AI is the biggest factor.
Many CEOs are openly stating that they’re replacing younger employees with robots.

“Artificial intelligence is going to replace literally half of all white-collar workers in the U.S.”
Andy Jassy (Amazon)
“We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today,” as generative AI and agents are rolled out.
Marianne Lake (JPMorgan Chase)
Anticipates a 10% reduction in operational staff over the next few years due to AI.
Tobi Lütke (Shopify)
Instructed employees to justify why new hires are needed when AI could potentially do the job instead.
Relatedly, we’re developing a type of FICO for film producers in support of our Film I fund — the first of its kind in the industry.
This is a quote from our dev, who is a CTO for hire with 20 years of experience:
“I just spent three days building this, and it’s amazing. I cannot believe how capable it is. Without AI, this would have taken me two months.”
His day rate, by the way, is over $2,000. AI saved us nearly $100k and seven weeks.
People like Roja, our developer, will use AI to 100 times their productivity. People just out of university will never have the chance to reach the baseline capabilities required to leverage these tools without a significant shift in global education priorities.
Among the 2025 undergraduate, MBA, and JD grads:
- Who are the mid and senior-level devs of 2030?
- The Big Law associates?
- The PE analysts recruited from banking?
If you’re in banking now, I encourage you to get very good at using tools like this.
