What is the Stephen Curry 2009 Panini RPA BGS 9.5?
This is a rookie patch autograph card from Stephen Curry’s rookie season, 2009. There are 108 of these cards listed in the Beckett card registry of which 52 are graded BGS 9.5. There are only two BGS 10s.
While the refractor itself is quite scarce, BGS 9.5 is the most common grade by a longshot. Further, more this card has the lowest possible combination of subgrades to merit a BGS 9.5. Of the 52 with this grade, 32 have more favourable subgrades.
Something to bear in mind as Collectable has a similar card set to IPO soon — and for a lower market cap — with more favourable subgrades.

Cultural Relevance
Considered by many to be the best shooter in NBA history, it’s difficult to overstate how much Curry has revolutionised the game of basketball.
Opposing players didn’t used to have to defend the half court, but Curry changed all that.
Players used to take shots from all over the court. Curry changed all that.
He’s currently less than 300 three-pointers behind all-time leader Ray Allen, and he’s probably got five to seven years left in his career. The only player comparable to him in the modern game is Nets guard James Harden. And to be fair, Harden is probably the better overall player.
But it’s not even close when you look at three-pointers. Or NBA championships. Curry three, Harden nil. During two of those three championship runs, Curry put Harding’s Rockets out the playoffs.
But is he an all-time great? Most don’t think so, at least not yet:He is undoubtedly a future Hall-of-Famer (duh) and is definitely one of the most skilled offensive players this game has ever seen, but when you are talking about “all-time greats,” you are talking about Michael Jordan. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Larry Bird. Tim Duncan. Magic Johnson. Hakeem Olajuwon. All of those guys made their legacies in the finals.
And it’s not looking better this year with the Warriors putting in a mediocre performance with the loss of Durant (left to join Harding in Brooklyn) and Thompson (injured).
Hey has the potential to become an all time great, but time is running out.

What is the Fernando Tatis 2016 Bowman Blue Refractor BGS 10 Pristine?
This is one of several refractor cards from Fernando Tatis Jr’s rookie season. What make this special is the grading – Pristine BGS 10. That means all four sub-grades were 10/10, which is very rare.
It’s the only card out of 130 to receive this grading from BGS.
The card shows seventeen-year-old Tatis Jr in a White Sox jersey even though he never played a game for them.

Cultural Relevance
At age 22, Tatis Jr is very young, and this card is a big bet on a big career. The Padres have put their own big bet on him, signing Tatis Jr to a 14-year $340m contrat before the 2021 season.
He’s too young to have done very much, but he has loads of underlying stats that suggest he’s going to be very good.
He compares very favourably to some other modern stars in slugging percentage.
He’s not quite on the same trajectory as Trout for home runs, he’s got a two year head start on both Seager and Betts.
More tangibly, he finished four the NL MVP vote last year behind Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Manny Machado.
Curious about the guy the White Sox traded Tatis Jr to get?James Shields made his first start with the White Sox against the Washington Nationals on June 8. He allowed 7 earned runs in 2 1⁄3 innings pitched before being taken out of the game. The White Sox lost the game by 11 runs to Shields went 4-12 with a 6.77 ERA in the 114.1 innings pitched for the White Sox. For the 2016 season, between the two teams he led the majors in giving up the most home runs (40), in giving up the most home runs per nine innings (1.98), and had the highest WHIP among major league pitchers (1.48). He had the lowest zone percentage of all major league pitchers, with only 37.7% of his pitches being in the strike zone.
Whoops.
As I said above, this is a big bet on a big prospect.

What is the Wilt Chamberlain 1961 Fleer PSA 9?
This is Wilt Chamberlain’s rookie card graded PSA 9. Of the 1249 cards submitted to PSA, it’s in the top 2.5%. There are only three graded PSA 10.

Cultural Relevance
Considered one of the best players of all time, Wilt Chamberlain was a centre who played for the Globetrotters before debuting with the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959.
He still holds dozens of records including:
- The only player to score 100 points in a game
- Only player to average more than both 40 and 50 points in a season
- Only player to average 30 points and 20 rebounds in a season, which he did seven times

Because he only won two titles (and lost four), Chamberlain isn’t quite at MJ’s level, but he’s very close. No one beat the Celtics back then.
He died of heart failure at age 63 in 1999.
