Video Games in 2021
While still up for the year, video game cartridges had are quickly giving back most of their gains. The release of a second video by Karl Jobst (more below) can’t have helped.
Last week’s performance
Fractional secondary markets
Bad week overall for games but particularly those from the NES and SNES platforms. Video games are by far the most volatile asset class at the minute.
This Week
New IPOs
Two new IPOs wade into the tumultuous seas of video game investing this week. Will they sink or swim?

- Market Cap: $30,800 (49% retained equity)
- Inferred Value: $15k (this is very rough as there are no comps)

Super Mario Bros 2 1988 WATA 9.8 A+
- Market Cap: $300k

Secondary markets
If you liked NWC on Otis last week (and I did), you’re going to love it this week.
Nintendo World Championship NES WATA 8.5
- Market Cap: $264k (down from $293k last week)
- Inferred Value: $550k
We highlighted Pokemon Yellow: Pikachu Edition on Otis at a market cap of $59k, and it’s up to $71,550 as of today.
Real time trading is live on Rally this week, and there are a few games available to buy and sell:
1998 N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 9.6 A+
- Market Cap: $58k
- Inferred Value: $23k
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! 1987 NES WATA 9.4 A+
- Market Cap: $133k
- Inferred Value: $200k
1997 N64 Goldeneye WATA 9.6 A++
- Market Cap: $53k
- Inferred Value: $95k
Another NES game goes live on Rally next week – an early production Legend of Zelda. Graded 9.4 by WATA, there are none higher that were made earlier. The B+ seal isn’t great, but we don’t know what the seal grade is of the other three copies of this variant known to exist.
- Market Cap: $140k
- Inferred Value: $450k
