What is the Michael Jordan 2003 SP Signature Edition Gold /50 BGS 9.5?

This is a limited run /50 autographed card from the 2003 Upper Deck SP Signature set. There’s also a less-rare version without the “gold” distinction, so if you’re looking for comps, make sure you’re looking at the right version.

Of the 29 cards registered with BGS, ten are graded 9.5, and there’s on BGS 10. Among the BGS 9.5s out there, four have an average of 9.625.

There’s one higher BGS 9.5 with an average 9.75 subgrades.

It IPOs on Otis 21st April 2021 for $46,600 with no retained equity.

Jordan’s cards are 50% off their parabolic highs, and I believe they’re now oversold. There could be a claw back.

Intangibles

It’s gold, which is quite nice.

What is the Willie Mays 1951 Bowman PSA 7?

This is Willie Mays’s rookie card from the gorgeous 1951 Bowman set. That set also featured Mickey Mantle’s rookie card. Graded PSA 7, there are 113 higher.

Cultural Relevance

Willie Mays is (still) the best centerfielder to play the game. Read about him in a previous write up here.

Unfortunately he’s been trending down lately in terms of search activity and only rates a middling score among baseball players to IPO.

Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle once competed in a head to head home run derby. Check it out.

This come down is part of a larger correction that will likely sort itself out as supply diminishes.

Intangibles

It’s a beautiful card, and it bugs me he doesn’t get more love from the Googles so I’m pumping up his intangibles score despite the retained equity.
