What's the difference between Alts.co and Altea?
Alts.co is home to our research, our newsletter read by 135,000 investors, and everything we publish about alternative markets, all free and open to anyone. Altea is our private members’ community, where accredited investors access live deals, join events and trips, and talk strategy with other serious alt investors. Think of it like a club: Alts.co is the front door. Altea is the room where deals happen.
Do I need to be wealthy or accredited to get value from this?
No. Our research and newsletter are open to everyone, and accreditation isn’t required to read, learn, or join the free tier of the community. Accreditation only comes into play when you want to invest in a live deal, since those are limited to accredited investors by law. Plenty of members read for months before they ever invest.
Your track record shows a 60% average IRR. Is that real?
Yes. Across the 14 investments we’ve run since inception, the average IRR is 60%. Some of those deals are closed and realized, others are still active with returns yet to be finalized, which is why a few are marked TBD. As with any investing, past performance doesn’t guarantee future results, and we publish the individual numbers so you can judge for yourself.
Beyond deal access, membership connects you with experienced alternative investors, curated insights, and ongoing discussions around strategy, diligence, and execution. While you’re never obligated to invest, becoming a member is required to see live deals and invest alongside the Altea network.
Who's behind Alts.co, and is any of this financial advice?
Alts.co was founded by Stefan von Imhof and Wyatt Cavalier. We’re self-taught accredited investors rather than licensed financial or tax professionals, and nothing we publish is financial advice. Everything is research and analysis meant to help you make your own informed decisions.
Can I take part if I'm outside the US?
Yes. Our newsletter, research, and Altea community are open to anyone, anywhere, and a good share of our members are based outside the US. The one area with restrictions is live deals. Because our offerings are structured under US securities rules, participation depends on your country and your accreditation status, and some deals may not be available in every jurisdiction. If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible for a specific deal, the community is the place to ask before you commit.
Do I need to be an Altea member to invest, and do I need to be accredited?
Two things are required to invest in an Altea deal. You need to be an Altea member, and for our SPVs you need to be an accredited investor, since these are private placements under US securities rules. Membership starts free, so the cost of joining won’t hold you back.
The real requirement is accreditation. If you’re not accredited, you still have plenty of ways in: we regularly share opportunities open to non-accredited investors, and the community, research, and events are open to everyone.
What's the minimum investment?
Minimums vary by deal and are set out in each investment memo, but they typically start around $10,000. Because we pool capital through an SPV, you can access deals whose direct minimums would normally be far out of reach.
What are the fees?
Every SPV carries a baseline management fee: Typically 3% for Altea Free members and 2% for Altea Paid members, with room to go lower through our Rewards Program. What happens after I decide to invest?
It starts with an Expression of Interest, which is just an early signal and never a commitment. If the deal moves ahead, you’ll receive a full investment memo, then sign documents and wire funds to a dedicated account created for that SPV. We use Clockwork to run the data room, KYC, and accreditation checks. Once the SPV closes, you’ll get ongoing updates on valuation, tax documents, and deal news.
How long is my money tied up, and can I exit early?
Alternative assets are illiquid by nature, so you should plan to hold for the full life of a deal, which varies by asset and is spelled out in each memo. Can members submit their own deals?
Yes, Altea encourages members to bring their own investment opportunities to the community for review. What kind of participation is required?
None beyond showing up however suits you. You can quietly read, join your regional group, jump into discussions, or come to events in person. There’s no minimum activity, no obligation to invest, and no pressure. Members get out what they put in.
How do meetups and events work, and what do they cost?
Events run in cities all over the world, and we’ve now held them in 12 states and 9 countries. Free members can attend local meetups for $99 each, and paid members attend unlimited meetups anywhere. Beyond the local events, we run week-long investor trips a few times a year.
What are the investor trips, and who can go?
These are week-long trips to unusual places, built around meeting the people behind the deals and seeing opportunities up close. The next is a whisky, private equity, distressed real estate, and bonsai journey through Japan, October 18 to 22. Investor trips are open to paid Altea members.
